INTEROPERABILITY CONFERNCE CALL BRIEFING
The State of Iowa, with the support of the federal government, is considering ways to improve “communications interoperability” among Iowa’s safety workers. Interoperability will allow first responders to communicate more effectively, especially during future disasters or emergencies.
In response to interest expressed by local officials and agencies, the Democratic members of the Iowa Senate have requested a conference call briefing for public safety officers, first responders and other stakeholders in order to address questions and concerns about the implementation of Iowa’s interoperability plans.
The call consisted of presentations by four speakers:
· Mr. Melvin Mercado, Federal Engineering (currently on contract to the state of Iowa to assist with a new state plan)
· Capt. Todd A. Misel, Iowa Statewide Interoperability Communications System Board (ISICSB) Chair
· Commander Dina McKenna, ISICSB Vice-Chair
· Ross Loder, Department of Public Safety Legislative Liaison
